Hayes Noel, a stockbroker in the 1970s and

He was intrigued when a friend of Gaines's showed him the Nelson Paint Company paintball gun. Loaded with small oil-painted balls designed for use by ranchers to mark trees and shelters that had been decided to be cut down by foresters, Gaines and Noel decided to test it in a mock duel. So they officially invented this game.
